We don't ask you to choose between natural stone and hand-sculpted faux rock — we blend both in every build, marrying the timeless authenticity of quarried stone with the limitless freedom of sculpted formations.
At Beyond Backyard Living Creations, mastery isn't about choosing a medium — it's about knowing exactly when and where each material serves the work best. We are one of the few firms in the Southeast that maintains deep expertise in both natural stone installation and faux rock sculpting, and we blend them within every significant build we undertake.
Large cliff faces, sweeping grottos, and dramatic overhangs call for hand-sculpted faux rock — lightweight, structurally versatile, and infinitely shapeable. Our sculptors replicate the irregular strata, surface texture, and color variation of real geological formations, creating immersive environments no quarry could supply.
Where authenticity demands the real thing — pool coping, retaining walls, stepping-stone paths, and accent details — we source and hand-select natural fieldstone, flagstone, and ledgestone. The weight, mineral variation, and cool-to-the-touch reality of natural stone grounds each composition in truth.
Every project we design intentionally combines both materials. Faux formations carry the architectural drama; natural stone adds tactile credibility at eye level and touch points. The result is indistinguishable from nature — because in the places that matter most, it IS nature.
Both our faux and natural installations are finished to age gracefully. Concrete cores are sealed and color-layered to develop the same lichen-kissed patina as surrounding stone. We design for how your landscape will look in five, fifteen, and thirty years — not just on installation day.
"The best rock work looks like it was always there. That only happens when you know both materials intimately and let each do what it does best."
Each project below showcases our integrated approach — labeled to show exactly where faux rock sculpting and natural stone work together in a single installation. Tap any card to explore the detail.
Where natural stone and sculpted faux rock become indistinguishable from the land itself.
Faux Formation + Natural Coping
Sweeping grotto arch sculpted entirely in faux rock — natural flagstone coping and submerged stepping stones add tactile authenticity at every touch point.
Sculpted Cascade + Natural Stream Bed
A multi-tier faux-rock waterfall cliff face drops into a stream bed lined with hand-selected river stone and natural fieldstone — zero visual seam between the two materials.
Sculpted Surround + Natural Ledgestone
The fountain bowl and upper column are cast and sculpted faux; the base plinth and surrounding retaining walls use dry-stacked natural ledgestone for weight and visual grounding.
Natural Basin + Sculpted Surround
A hand-cut natural limestone basin sits at the center; the surrounding landscape boulders and planted pockets use sculpted faux rock to scale up the composition beyond what natural quarry blocks could achieve.
Faux Cliff + Natural Deck
The dramatic 12-foot backdrop cliff is sculpted faux — engineered for stability and texture variety. The surrounding deck and water-edge details are natural travertine.
Blended Rock Water Feature
An intimate backyard piece combining a natural granite spillway with a sculpted boulder surround — proof that the blend works at any scale, from estate to suburban yard.
Exceptional results come from exceptional process. Here's how we approach each phase of a blended natural stone and faux rock installation — from the first sketch to the final sealant coat.
Every faux rock formation begins with a steel-armature skeleton, then receives multiple layers of fiber-reinforced concrete applied by hand. Sculptors use custom tools and a photographic library of real rock faces to replicate authentic geological stratification, joint lines, and surface relief. No two pieces leave the studio looking the same.
We source flagstone, fieldstone, ledgestone, and river rock from trusted regional quarries and hand-inspect every shipment. Pieces are selected for consistent tone, compatible scale, and structural soundness — then dry-laid or mortar-set by craftsmen who understand how stone moves over time.
All sculpted formations are sealed with a penetrating elastomeric coat that resists Florida freeze-thaw cycles and UV degradation. Natural stone joints use polymer-modified mortar rated for continuous water exposure. Both systems are engineered to exceed the 20-year structural benchmark we set for every installation.
We apply five to seven layers of hand-tinted iron-oxide washes to faux rock, building depth from highlight to shadow exactly as natural minerals would deposit over decades. Installations are then lightly distressed and sealed — arriving 'pre-aged' to match the surrounding landscape on day one.

Our team is small by design — every project is led by the same senior craftsmen from concept through installation. You won't work with a sales rep and then hand off to a crew you've never met.
Lead Sculptor & Co-Founder
Over 18 years sculpting site-specific rock formations across Florida. Marcus trained under a theme-park rockwork team before founding Beyond Backyard.
Natural Stone Specialist
A third-generation stonemason, Danny brings an encyclopedic knowledge of Florida's regional stone sources and the old-world craft of dry-stack masonry.
Design Director
Carlos bridges the conceptual and technical — translating client vision into material specs, structural plans, and a sculpting brief the build team can execute precisely.
Every project begins with a private, no-pressure conversation. We visit your property, listen to your vision, and walk you through exactly how natural stone and hand-sculpted formations can be blended to create something extraordinary — just for your space.
